The collection of oriental porcelains of the Quinta das Cruzes Museum was mainly donated by the collector César Filipe Gomes, having been subsequently enriched by other donations and acquisitions which at present make it possible to carry out an evolutive interpretation of a stylistic and technical nature of how this type of Ceramics has evolved.
The cluster we are now analysing not only portrays the evolution of this type of production but also fits it in with the needs of the community of Madeira. The presence on the Island of a vast English community which began to come here in the late 17th century and which remained virtually until the mid-20th century, seeking rapid enrichment by way of the wine-making trade, greatly influenced the raising of awareness in this regard, as well as the growing presence of porcelain pieces in this territory.
